Colònia de Sant Pere
Welcome to the route through Colònia de Sant Pere. With this touristic multilingual audio guide you will visit a selection of outstanding monuments, buildings and sites of this small urban centre administrated by Artà.
Colònia de Sant Pere has its origins in the 19th century, as a consequence of the decrees for agricultural areas established by the Spanish central government. A group of families moved to a place that was then separated from the rest of the world and dedicated to agriculture and fishing.
Some traces from this agricultural past are left, like the fig trees and vineyards that open their green leaves to the sea every summer. Its fishing past can also be seen in the curious constructions known as hatcheries, where the fish was kept alive. Nowadays, Colònia de Sant Pere and the urban centres of S'Estanyol and Betlem are the summer residence for many local and foreign people who long for the calmness next to the sea.
