Description of itinerary

This walk starts at the Houses of S’Alqueria Vella de Baix and goes within the Llevant Nature Park. In fact, this route is partly a combination of three of the itineraries proposed by this protected area: the Prisoners' Path, the Circular Route of the Establits de S’Alqueria Vella and the ascent of Sa Talaia Freda.
This walk goes up Sa Talaia Freda, the highest hill in the Artà area at 564 metres above sea level. Its northern slope is steep with cliffs that almost reach down to the sea. As these excursions are not designed as climbs, we propose to go up the southern side of the hill, which has a much gentler slope and where the only steep climb covers a difference in altitude of 200 metres, the distance separating the Military Camp from the summit. The views from here are magnificent, particularly on the north side, overlooking Na Clara and Es Caló, two virgin beaches on the Artà coast, and you will definitely be rewarded for all your efforts in the climb.
The second summit on this walk is Puig de Sa Creu, visited especially by those walking up from the Houses of Betlem, passing by the hermitage, which has a large cross on the top (from which it gets its name) and also a surprise: a box for the people reaching the top to leave notes.
From here on, as the path is often used it's very easy to follow and will lead us to the viewpoint of Puig del Migdia. The path then brings us to the water wheel of S’Alqueria Vella de Dalt and finally to the building that houses the oil mill of S’Alqueria (also known as Ses Cotxeries). After passing by the houses, we're soon back at our starting point.
This route has been taken from the collection of excursions prepared and published by the hiking group "Un raig d’Artanencs".
